THE FALLOUT

Interview from More Punk Than You
http://punkzine.sufx.net/home.htm

More Punk Than You Zine: Greetings from Romania! How are you, guys?

The Fallout: Hey, we?e doing great. We?e been playing now for 10 years. We?e been a 3 piece with the same line-up for 3 years. We had our 3rd release on Longshot Music in 2006. This was an EP of some obscure old school Canadian punk covers. We did a video for ?n the Gutter? perhaps you?e seen it on youtube?

MPTY: In 2005 you released "What Is Past Is Prologue", but i know that somewhere in 2007 you'll release a new album. Give me some details about that.

TF: We have agreed to work with Insurgence Records for our new release. Our partnership with Longshot was great, but we?e hoping Insurgence will be able to get us exposed to a bigger audience and tour a bit further. I don? know that we can get to Romania anytime soon, but who knows? Our new CD is just about ready. We?e recorded 13 more songs with lots of attitude and energy. We?e writing about animal advocacy, racism, workers struggles and the usual assortment of punk angst and anthems.

MPTY: I know you have some gigs in this period. Do you plan a promoting tour for the new album?

TF: We?e excited about touring further than we ever have, hopefully all across Canada and maybe into the USA. We are trying to work out shows with Insurgent bands like The Prowlers, The Class Assassins and other Canadian acts like Angels, Saints and Heroes, The Rebel Spell and The Rotten.

MPTY: What can you tell me about the punk scene in Canada (i know you have bands like DOA or SNFU there)

TF: DOA are like the godfathers of punk here. They have been playing for more than 25 years now! Punk has always been up and down in popularity. It may not be at a peak right now but there are still enough good bands to carry the torch and enough young excited fans to fan the flames.

MPTY: The Clash, Ramones and political lyrics description sounds good. What bands have influnced Fallout?

TF: We?e all big Stiff Little Fingers fans. I hope it shows! We enjoy lots of newer bands too. We like Bombshell Rocks, Streetdogs, Voice of a Generation, Briggs, Disasters to name a few.

MPTY: Insurgence Records has signed you to their label. How are things going with that?

TF: Insurgence has been really supportive. The label wants to have a real scene happening this year and plans on putting on some bigger shows. Everyone is excited.

MPTY: What can you tell me about the scene in Europe? If you had the chance to play here, how is the audience here comparing with the one in Canada?

TF: I really don? keep on what? happening too much. I get the impression there are strong scenes all over Europe. In Canada we do get caught in the shadow of the US . We are more aware of what is happening to the south of us than even our own scenes here. Maybe I? old because I don? surf the net that much!

MPTY: From what i know, you each played in other bands since the late 80s. It was so hard back then to succeed in punk-rock and now there are so many bands that have nothing to say but still manage to sell records. Aren't you a bit envious?

TF: We?e happy for any band that gets where they want to go. Having played since the 80? we really never thought it was possible to have hit records playing punk anyways. I think the fact that we are still playing and putting out CD? is a sign of ?unk success?anyways. We?e doing it our way, on our terms. We playing to crowds, maybe small ones sometimes, but we always get a good reaction which makes it all worthwhile.

MPTY: Do you know anything about Romania? Do you know any bands around here?

TF: I really must admit that I don? much about your country. Maybe if you can set up some shows, you could convince Insurgence to fly us out there. You could give us a great tour!

MPTY: Thanks a lot for the interview! Good luck with your new album! I'll leave the last word to you.

TF: Thanks for the great questions. I? glad we can find common ground through music even though we?e a world apart. Let? hope for peace, love and anarchy for everyone in 2007!
